The heart-breaking life story of Geraldine* The life of Geraldine has been a life of suffering and mistreatment. Both partners fell very short as gentlemen, and also her sons abused and hurt her. [...]
We all see the needs in our city. We believe many people would like to do something to help but don’t know what to do or how to start. We build relationships with local associations that are caring for people in need and create opportunities for volunteers to serve. We exist as matchmakers and our vision is to connect the needs and resources of the city for the good of all.
Many people doing small things together can make a big difference
Serve a meal. Paint a wall. Play football with refugees. Teach dance to children in need. Join a small team of volunteers and cross the line into a refugee centre, a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen, an orphanage and discover that the things you love to do can make a difference in someone’s life.
Serve the City started in Brussels in 2005 with a week of volunteering and is now active or starting in 100 cities around the world. We were not trying to start an organisation. We were just trying to gather people who wanted to help and people from all over the world came to us with the desire to do the same. Want to start Serve the City in another city? Contact us!
After ten years of monthly events, weekly volunteering opportunities, team buildings, and an annual Big Volunteer Week, Serve the City Brussels is moving into the neighbourhood. We want to strengthen relationships between neighbours and respond to the needs that only locals really understand. Join us in the Marolles, Schaerbeek, Sainte Catherine, Ixelles, and Etterbeek – and soon in Anderlecht, Mollenbeek, and Laeken.
